Isn't this extortion?
- Extortion is a criminal offense, which occurs when a person obtains money, behaviour, or other goods and/or services from another by wrongfully threatening or inflicting harm to his person, reputation, or property.
Take notice to the line that says “to HIS person, reputation, or property”. This is a key phrase because yes, I am threatening Toby’s life, but Toby is MY property. There is no law against threatening your own property. Would it be illegal for me to tell someone I’m going to bash my car windshield in if they don’t give me 50 bucks? Nope.
